Priceline Hotel Bidding Advance Strategy: Matrix Bidding

I am such a dope.  A few months back, I came across a new bidding strategy for bidding on hotels with Priceline.  By new, I mean new to me, this has been around awhile and I can’t believe I never caught it before.  The strategy is great and it will exponentially increase the number of rebids.  If you have enough safe zones you could probably set your bid increases by $1 or $2, almost assuring that you will get the rock bottom price.

Before we get into the matrix bidding we need to start with the basics.  For a detailed explanation on how priceline works and my bidding strategy click here.  To summarize when you find a zone you want to bid on you can rebid after a failed attempt by adding safe zones.  A safe zone is a zone that does not have your desired star level, therefore assuring that if a hotel accepts your bid it will be in your desired zone.  For example, you want to bid on 4 star hotels in Zone A.  Let’s say you make a bid and it is rejected.  You can add zones that do not have 4 star hotels and rebid at the 4 star level, thus assuring that if your bid is accepted it will be in your desired zone.   Pretty simple.

Here is where it gets fun.  If there are multiple safe zones in your desired city you can rebid following a set pattern and it will exponentially increase the number of rebids you can have.  The annoying thing (but totally worth it) is that after each rejected bid, exit out of Priceline, then bid again adding the safe zone per the matrices below.  Here we go:

It is impossible for me to explain this pattern so I will just show it to you and you should be able to see it.

Desired area (A) + one safe zone (B)
A
A+B

Desired area (A) + two safe zones (B & C)
A
A+B
A+C
A+B+C

Desired area (A) + three safe zones (B, C, & D)
A
A+B
A+C
A+D
A+B+C
A+B+D
A+C+D
A+B+C+D

Desired area (A) + four safe zones (B, C, D, & E)
A
A+B
A+C
A+D
A+E
A+B+C
A+B+D
A+B+E
A+C+D
A+C+E
A+D+E
A+B+C+D
A+B+D+E
A+C+D+E
A+B+C+E
A+B+C+D+E

As you can see, this vastly increases the number of times you can rebid.  Compare this to my older method of bidding four safe zones

A
A+B
A+B+C
A+B+C+D
A+B+C+D+E

Five rebids versus 16!  When you add in this level of rebids along with my strategy of taking advantage of supply and demand, you can really dial in on the rock bottom price.
