Oregon Zoo’s Baby Elephant Can Now Be Viewed By Public

We went to the zoo on second Tuesday with the hopes that Lily, the baby elephant, would be viewable by the public.  Looks like we just missed her by a couple of days.  It is not every day you get to see a newborn elephant, if the zoo wasn’t on your itinerary I think you should add it in.

If you decide to go, I suggest taking the Max.  My guess is parking will be pretty limited, plus you have to pay to park.  If you take the Max you can show your ticket stub at the zoo ticket window for $1.50 off admission.  To get there by Max take either the Red or Blue line heading west and get off at the Washington Park Station (only stop in the tunnel).

Airfare Alert

Just because it rains everyday during winter in Portland doesn’t mean you shouldn’t visit, and with airfare as low as it is why not?  Just bring an umbrella.  It is not cold, just wet.

Austin $231 (United), travel by March 4

Chicago $236 (American, United, Alaska), travel by March 20

Dallas $238 (Virgin America), travel by March 20

Denver $148 (Southwest), travel by February 13

Fresno $198 (Alaska), travel by March 19

Honolulu $387 (Alaska), travel by February 12 (fare is good for PDX-HNL roundtrip as well, which for winter travel to Hawaii is a great price)

Las Vegas $136 (Southwest), travel by March 20

Los Angeles $138 (American, Delta, Alaska, United, Virgin America), travel by March 20

Orlando $317 (Delta), travel by May 31

The Best Fish & Chips In Portland Might Be At A Food Cart

There is an excellent food cart pod on SW 9th and Alder that takes up an entire city block.  One of the many great options in this pod is the Frying Scotsman.

I am not kidding when I say these may be the best fish & chips in Portland, they are really good!  Until I tried the Frying Scotsman I was of the opinion that the best fish and chips in Portland were at Halibuts.  I am rethinking that position now.  Blind taste test maybe? Continue reading

$4 Admission To The Zoo On Tuesday

Every second Tuesday of the month is discounted admission at the Washington Park Zoo.  We will be off to the zoo on Tuesday because the elephants have a new addition to the family and we are hoping to catch a glimpse of the yet to be named baby elephant.

Zoo lights is also going on at the Zoo right now which runs through December 31st. Zoo lights starts at 5:00 PM.  Unfortunately, the $4 admission only applies if you enter the park at by 4:00 PM so if you want to see the lights but arrive after 4:00 PM you will need to pay full admission.  For the full experience I suggest riding the train which will take you out to the International Rose Garden, although there are no roses right now you will see some good views of the city.
